Sligo Rovers have secured their place in next season's Airtricity League Premier Division.
Dinny Corcoran's two second-half goals helped Sligo to a 2-0 win over St. Pat's tonight at Richmond Park, which will be enough to keep them in the top-flight.
Rovers have a superior goal-difference to fellow strugglers Drogheda United and Galway United, which means that they can finish no worse than 10th place this season.
However, Limerick are now facing the very real prospect of First Division football next season.
The basement side suffered a 2-0 defeat to Shamrock Rovers tonight at the Markets Field, which leaves them two points adrift of Drogheda United at the foot of the table and the best they can now hope for is for a spot in the relegation play-off.
Drogheda currently occupy that play-off spot after a 3-0 loss at home to Longford Town tonight leaves them second from bottom.
Elsewhere, Cork City and Dundalk played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at Turners Cross.
And Bohemians defeated their hosts, Derry City, 3-2 at the Brandywell.
