Manchester City are through to the Champions League knockout stages for the second season in a row after an away win at Roma.
Second half goals from Samir Nasri and Pablo Zabaleta gave the Premier League champions the victory they wanted.
City keeper Joe Hart was called on to make a string of saves during the opening half in the Italian capital in order to keep his side in contention.
Nasri opened the scoring for Manuel Pellegrini's side in fine fashion:
Roma centre-half Kostas Manolas had a chance to level the match but his header struck the post.
Zabaleta made sure of all three points when he finished off a pass by Nasri.
Bayern Munich topped the group after beating CSKA Moscow 3 - 0.
Chelsea 3 - 1 Sporting
Chelsea finished off their Champions League group stage commitments with a comfortable win over Sporting Lisbon.
A penalty from Cesc Fabregas put the Blues into an early lead before Andre Schuerrle doubled their advantage in the 16th minute.
Sporting, who needed at least a point to be assured of their place in the knockout stages, pulled a goal back at the start of the second half through Jonathan Silva.
But a rare goal from John Obi Mikel saw Chelsea finish six points clear at the top of the group ahead of Schalke, who pipped Sporting to final last-16 place.
