Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal confirmed that Wayne Rooney is fit to play against Manchester City on Sunday.
The United and England captain missed his club's last three Premier League encounters after being shown a red card in a 2-1 win over West Ham in September.
"He was never injured. He shall play, he is my captain," said van Gaal during his weekly press conference at the AON Training Complex.
"He has scored a lot of goals against City, the most of any player. I am very happy that he can play, and he shall."
The Dutchman will be without Colombian striker Radamel Falcao who misses out because of a knock he sustained the day before last week's game against Chelsea.
Falcao has been the subject of rumours this week suggesting that he has completed a permanent move to Old Trafford but he will have to be content with watching from the stands on Sunday.
Antonio Valencia could also feature having recovered from a hamstring injury which he sustained playing against Everton.
