Rob Elliot looks to miss six months after sustaining a knee injury during last night's 2-2 draw with Slovakia, according to reports this morning.
Sky Sports News claim the Newcastle goalkeeper is likely to miss the duration of the Premier League season and the European Championships in France.
Elliot was stretchered off during last night's game, but neither the FAI or Newcastle United have offered an official prognosis on the injury.
In his post match press conference last night Martin O'Neill did say that the injury looked "serious" and the Newcastle number one has been flown back to St. James' Park where it looks as though these injury fears will be confirmed.
Newcastle sit 19th in the league, three points clear of safety with eight games remaining.
