Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri has given the club's fans a massive boost with the news that Riyad Mahrez looks set to stay at the club.
"He wants to stay", Ranieri told Sky Sports News after the team's opening pre-season game. The Premier League champions defeated Oxford United 2-1 away from home. Demarai Gray and Jeffrey Schlupp scored both goals for Ranieri's side.
Arsenal, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have all been linked with the Algerian international, but Ranieri remains confident that the 25-year-old will remain with the team.
Kante was named as the PFA Player of the Season and scored 17 goals in the Premier League as Leicester won the title. He joined the club from Le Havre in January 2014.
Despite Kante's news, N'Golo Kante did leave Leicester last week, to join Premier League rivals Chelsea. He is the only player from Leicester's starting 11 that has left the team this summer.
"We wanted to keep everybody but Kante wanted to go", Ranieri admitted. "It's ok. Good luck for him".
"We wanted to keep him. He wanted to do. We don't want to keep unhappy players".
Leicester return to pre-season action on Saturday when they travel north to face Scottish Premiership champions Celtic in Glasgow.
