Reports: John Sheridan to leave Waterford after just 7 games

John Sheridan's turbulent spell in charge of Waterford FC looks like being a short one.

The former Republic of Ireland midfielder was appointed as first-team manager at the RSC on July 9, and has taken charge of just seven games.

In that time, Sheridan's overseen just two wins, been accused of telling his own players that the SSE Airtricity Premier Division is a "pub league", and told Vinny Perth he was being sacked as Dundalk boss a week before he actually was.

Sheridan's been lined up to take over at English League One side Wigan Athletic. The 55-year old is no stranger to management in Greater Manchester having had three spells in charge of Oldham Athletic.

Wigan are still in administration, with a 12-point penalty last season costing them their place in the Championship.

Their relegation saw ex-Sligo Rovers boss Paul Cook leave the club. Former Leeds United manager Simon Grayson was another name recently linked with the JJB gig.

Wigan begin their League One season away to Ipswich Town on Sunday lunchtime.

The Examiner claim that Sheridan may already been confirmed as Latics boss by that time, with Friday evening's Premier Division game with Bohemians set to be his last.

Sheridan's appointment only came about following Alan Reynolds' resignation in June. He went on to assist Perth at Dundalk, but has also gone on to leave the Oriel Park club.
