At Monday's Republic of Ireland press conference, Mick McCarthy was adamant that the 2002 Switzerland match wouldn't be preying on his mind this Thursday.
His first spell in charge of Ireland ended against the Swiss that year. A 2-1 loss had followed a 4-2 reverse in Russia. And lest we forget, those games came off the back of the events of Saipan ahead of the World Cup that summer.
Now in his second spell in charge of Ireland, Thursday's Euro 2020 qualifier pits McCarthy against that familiar foe once again.
