PSG defender Serge Aurier has been sentenced to two months in jail and fined €600 for assaulting a police officer outside a nightclub.
Aurier, 23, was involved in the incident in May of this year where he allegedly elbowed a policeman in the throat. The Ivory Coast international was asked to take a breathalyser test as he got into his car outside a nightclub on the Champs Elysées.
"We’re appealing. Mr Aurier contests the findings. He’s not guilty and must be acquitted," the player’s lawyer, Claire Boutard de la Combe, said.
Aurier is expected to avoid jail time, but is likely to have to pay a bigger fine and complete community service. He was also ordered to pay €1,500 to cover court costs.
This is the latest incident that the defender has been involved in. Earlier this year, he was suspended for using derogatory language while talking about his then-coach Laurent Blanc.
He was also handed a three-game ban by Uefa for publicly insulting a referee for sending off Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
