Peter Stringer to play professionally into his 40th year

Irish scrum-half Peter Stringer has signed a new one-year extension with Sale Sharks that will see him play past his 39th birthday.

The Cork native has undergone a career renaissance in England since leaving Munster to join Saracens on loan in December 2011. Since the move to London over four years ago, Stringer has also had a loan spell at Newcastle before spending over two-years at Bath.

Stringer joined Sale Sharks on a one-year deal last summer and it was revealed on Friday morning he has signed a one-year extension. Sale's Director of Rugby Steve Diamond said he was delighted to tie Stringer down to another year. "Peter is a model professional who is incredibly fit and shows no signs of getting old. He has brought our backline to life this season. He is a very well respected member of our squad and the younger lads have all benefitted from Peter being here."

Speaking after signing the new deal, Stringer said there is no sign of slowing down yet. "I'm delighted to have agreed a new deal. I am loving my rugby at Sale Sharks. It's a great environment and we have some very talented players at the club. The opportunity to get regular game time has given me a new lease of life."

His last appearance for Ireland came against England in the 2011 Six Nations.
