'Paul Pogba has played well recently, but I would still sell him' | Harris

Despite a consistent run of good form recently, Paul Pogba is of no use to Manchester United in the long-term, according to football writer Daniel Harris.

On a disappointing night for Manchester United, the performance of Paul Pogba did not stray for better or worse from the general malaise surrounding Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team. Without much energy or direction, they were defeated 2-1 by bottom of the table Sheffield United at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

A sign of the work yet to be done in bringing the club to a position where they can seriously challenge in major competitions, football writer Daniel Harris honed in the long-term issue of Pogba when he joined OTB AM to analyse the performance on Thursday morning.

"If it was up to me would [Manchester United] keep him, then no I would sell him and try to find a better replacement," stated Harris, the public comments of dissatisfaction shared by Pogba's agent last year an indication that the French World Cup winner has designs on leaving the club anyway.

"I think we'll always be having these conversations about Pogba, however well he is playing at the moment. He has produced a decent, consistent run of form but it is not going to change who he is.

"I don't think that what United need from him and what he is able to deliver exactly match... but United would be in a problem without having had Pogba these last few weeks, that's fair to say."

Since rejoining the club for a world record fee in 2016, it is generally accepted that Paul Pogba has not fulfilled his potential while at United.

Over recent weeks as Manchester United have rallied and found themselves sitting atop of the Premier League table briefly, Pogba's performances have been instrumental.

While Harris ultimately believes that the 27-year-old may never deliver such form consistently enough for United, he conceded that the task of replacing someone with the midfielder's skill set would be difficult.

"The money you would get for Pogba in this market with one-year left on his contract will probably allow you to buy a replacement," he suggested, Paris St. Germain a possible destination for the Frenchman.

"Where you find a player as good as Paul Pogba is obviously a problem, but if Pogba wants to leave then United should let him go."
