Paul Lambert reveals he was delighted to be sacked by Aston Villa

Paul Lambert has told Sky Sports he was delighted to have been sacked by Aston Villa.

Lambert was replaced by Tim Sherwood this time last year as the manager of the Birmingham-based club and feels as though it was the best possible outcome in a situation that had become dire.

"The lads at Villa at that time gave us everything, there was never one time where I walked away and thought we had thrown the towel in," Lambert said.

"We just found things hard towards the end. As I've said before, Villa is a great club, always has been and always will be, but I knew my time was up.

"Some of the things that were going on were never right so when it [the sacking] did actually happen, I was delighted it was going to happen."

This comes on the back of a public resignation by an Aston Villa worker who claims she can not work for Randy Lerner any longer and cites poor working conditions and low staff morale as the reason for her leaving.

Aston Villa are welded to the bottom of the Premier League table and have since replaced Tim Sherwood with Remi Garde and have most recently lost 6-0 to Liverpool in the league.

Former manager Alex McLeish also spoke recently of his working conditions upon taking the job in 2011. Lerner asked McLeish "if we could reduce the wages to get to a certain level but remain competitive within the league.

In terms of PR, this looks ghastly for Villa but Lerner possibly won't mind as the end could be nigh for the American as the owner of the football club.
