'It's not in their DNA to draw' | Meyler expects Liverpool to attack City

Liverpool won’t attempt to hold Manchester City to a draw when they play them in two weeks' time, according to David Meyler.

The former Ireland international was speaking to Off The Ball’s Nathan Murphy after their win over Tottenham on Sunday evening.

The Merseysiders are currently six points clear of City at the top of the Premier League table but Meyler believes that Liverpool will go out to win the crucial clash between the two.

“I don’t think it’s in their DNA at the moment [to try and draw matches]. This team only knows how to go and win football matches. I don’t think they can go and set their stall out.

“Even in the games they had against Man City last year they never looked like, oh the team was playing for a draw.

“City will be coming here and thinking, ‘If we can beat them we’ll shorten the gap.’ There are other games in between but Liverpool, as you said, their home form is incredible.

“[Man City] have got problems at the back and with Liverpool’s front three, without an established back four, you’d fancy Liverpool to beat them at home,” Meyler said.

Return to form after Man United draw

“I think Liverpool deserved to win. I think last week obviously against Man United they struggled to break Man United down.

“Obviously I know they equalised late on but today they showed enough resilience to keep going and knock on the door.

“They created more chances. They got through. They won the game 2-1 but Spurs then did come out and they showed that resilience to actually keep in the game and stay in and not give away much.

“I know Spurs had one or two good chances but when you’ve got a keeper like Allison in the goal it didn’t really matter. I think Liverpool fully deserved the three points,” Meyler commented.

Liverpool and Man City will meet at Anfield on the 10th of November, in what is shaping up to be one of the games of the year.

Although it comes in only the 12th round of the season, the game could be crucial in deciding who claims the Premier League title in May.
