Jack Byrne might be Ireland's best prospect of replacing Wes Hoolahan in the international setup, according to Stuart Byrne.
Stuart was in commentary for Off The Ball during Ireland's 3-1 win over Bulgaria at the Aviva this evening, and was mightily impressed with the Shamrock Rovers playmaker.
"He has vision and quality," said Stuey of the young Shamrock Rovers playmaker.
"He is not afraid to demand the ball, and you can see players around him with more experience giving him the ball.
"What he does really well is he plays it forward all the time, and was asking questions of the Bulgarian defenders.
"He looked top class since coming on, you can see that players are more than willing to give him the ball.
"Playing forward is always his first option and, if it is not on, he will not waste the ball.
"I don't think you could ask for a better debut."
Stuart believes that he might have the ability that Ireland have been sorely missing since Hoolahan's retirement.
"He was the real injection of quality into the game," Stuart continued.
"You would have comparisons to Wes with how he had that impact when he came on. He has that composure.
"We have our new Wes Hoolahan!"
