Former Republic of Ireland midfielder David Meyler joined Thursday's OTB AM to discuss Liverpool's victory over Tottenham Hotspur and the antics of Jose Mourinho.

A late Roberto Firmino header gave Jurgen Klopp's side a 2-1 win on the night and sent them to the top of the Premier League.

After the game, Mourinho claimed that "the best team lost" and that he had told Klopp as much at full-time.

Meyler did not agree with that assessment of the game but he does feel that recent days have shown that the Mourinho of old is back.

Mourinho

"There was all the mind games leading up to the game and then after the game, there is a buzz back, Meyler said.

"Also, if you just look at the second half, Spurs went toe-to-toe with Liverpool and it made me realise that Mourinho has his mojo back. Tottenham aren’t going anywhere and I think they are going to be there for the duration of the season.

"If they can keep Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane fit for the majority of the season then they’re certainly going to be up and around there."

Meyler still feels though that Liverpool are a cut above and are strong favourites to retain their title.

Mourinho

"They are just a machine in the way that they turn in performances week in, week out and just manage to get results. When you have the front three that they have, you give yourself chances of winning football matches," he said.

"In their last 33 Premier League home games, they’ve won 32 of them. It’s just remarkable to watch.

"This three point gap has been opened up and Klopp will certainly be looking to grow that gap over the coming weeks."

Liverpool travel to Crystal Palace on Saturday while Spurs face Leicester at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
