Manchester United have donated medical equipment and sent vehicles to support the UK's National Health Service in their fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The club announced a package of measures to support the NHS and has also made the facilities at its Old Trafford stadium available.
"A fleet of 16 vehicles has been put on standby with volunteer drivers available to support NHS courier operations in the area," reads the official club statement.
"The club is encouraging its staff to volunteer for the NHS or in their local communities during the pandemic. Staff will continue to be paid in full if volunteer work takes place during working hours."
Former United boss Alex Ferguson, who underwent surgery on a brain haemorrhage in 2018, praised the skill and dedication of the NHS who nursed him back to full health.
"I’m delighted we are now recognising the importance of our NHS – as I experienced two years ago after they saved my life – the response to this pandemic has been magnificent and has made me proud of the way the club and the British people have rallied round to help. Well Done," said Ferguson.
Current United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer added his gratitude for the NHS' work.
"The NHS staff and the volunteers fighting the virus are putting themselves at risk to keep everybody safe and doing a truly amazing job," said Solskjaer.
"They deserve thanks and praise from everybody for their work and their efforts every single day."
The United squad had previously agreed to donate 30 per cent of their wages to local hospitals and health services while they also collaborated with players from other teams to set up a fund to raise money for NHS charities.
