Manchester City confirm Leroy Sane's ACL injury

Manchester City have revealed Leroy Sane will need surgery on a cruciate ligament injury in his right knee and is facing a lengthy spell out.

The German international winger picked up the problem during their Community Shield win over Liverpool at Wembley last weekend.

He had been strongly linked with a move to Bayern Munich this summer, with manager Novak Kovac apologising for expressing his 'confidence' that a deal for Sane was imminent.

"He has undergone testing throughout the week, with a specialist doctor travelling to Manchester for further examinations to understand the extent of the injury," City confirmed in a statement.

"Leroy will have surgery in the coming week. Manchester City will provide Leroy with all the support and guidance he needs, and everyone connected with the Club wishes him a quick and full recovery".

City have also signed former England goalkeeper Scott Carson.

He joins the Premier League champions on a season-long loan deal from Derby and will provide back-up to Ederson and Claudio Bravo.

“It’s an honour to have signed for City on loan,” Carson said. “It’s something I didn’t expect but an opportunity I simply could not turn down. To be part of this squad – the Champions of England – is a dream come true.

“I can’t wait to see Pep’s work on the training field up close. What he has achieved in his management career has been amazing, and it’s every player’s dream to play under him.

“Hopefully, my experience will prove useful as we try and make it three Premier League titles in a row.”
