Man City-Real Madrid stalemate sets up intriguing second leg

Manchester City have finished 0-0 with Real Madrid in tonight's Champions League semi-final first leg.

It means City have a big task in trying to achieve an overall victory in Spain a week tomorrow but the consolation, at least, is that their opponents won't take an away goal into that second leg contest.

In a match with few clear-cut opportunities, Real who started without Cristiano Ronaldo, came close twice in the last 20 minutes.

Jese Rodriguez headed against the crossbar with 20 minutes to go.

Ten minutes later, Joe Hart made a point-blank save from Pepe.

Deep into stoppage time, Real keeper Keylor Navas tipped a Kevin De Bruyne free-kick over the bar as the game ended 0-0.

One away goal at the Bernabeu in the second leg for City would leave Real Madrid needing to score twice to progress to the final for the second time in three years.
