Liverpool and France defender Mamadou Sakho has accepted the findings of a failed drugs test he submitted last month.
The 26-year-old was notified of the positive drugs test last weekend and was ruled out of Liverpool's Premier League game with Newcastle on Saturday as a result. In a statement released by the club last weekend, the club stated that they were notified of the positive test last Friday.
"A formal communication was received from UEFA stating that they are investigating a possible anti-doping rule violation by Mamadou Sakho. The player will respond to UEFA on the matter.
The player is currently not subject to any playing suspension. However, the club, in consultation with the player, has decided that while this process is followed the player will not be available for selection for matches."
The test came after Liverpool's Europa League second leg tie against Manchester United last month. Reports in France claim the positive result came from Sakho using a fat burning supplement.
Sakho now faces a lengthy ban as a result of the positive test in news that will come as a blow to his club and country. Liverpool play Villarreal in the Europa League semi-final on Thursday night while France are preparing to host Euro 2016 in June.
