It may still be two months until Luis Suarez's ban for his bite on Giorgio Chiellini during this summer's World Cup is fully lifted, but Luis Suarez last night made his debut for new club Barcelona.
The recent appeal against the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruling allowed the Uruguayan to don the famous blue and red stripes in a Gamper Cup friendly against Mexican champions Club Leon at the Nou Camp in which the Catalan club ran out winners in a 6-0 rout.
The former Liverpool star was introduced after 76 minutes for Rafinha, by which stage the hosts had already scored four goals and made nine changes. It wasn't a goalscoring debut for the banned striker, but several neat passes in a relaxed last 15 minutes whet the appetite ahead of his full debut on the last weekend of October.
It wasn't just the on-pitch arrival of Luis Suarez that excited the fans, however, with Neymar playing the first half of the match after his horror injury in the World Cup quarter-finals and he got himself on the score sheet twice. Neymar's replacment, 18 year-old Munir El Haddadi, bagged two goals himself while another youngster Sandro Ramirez and Lionel Messi completed the scoring with a goal apiece.
