Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius had been ruled out for up to 10 weeks with a broken hand just weeks after moving from FC Mainz.
The new arrival broke his hand in a collision with team-mate Dejan Lovren during their side's loss to Chelsea at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California on Wednesday night.
Jurgen Klopp needed to invest in a goalkeeper this summer having watched Simon Mignolet make a series of mistakes last season that cost his side on a number of occasions.
The German manager went back to his old club to sign Karius for a reported fee of £4.7 and also signed Alex Manniger in an effort to beef up his options ahead of the news season.
Klopp will have to make a decision whether to start with Mignolet or 39-year-old Manniger, who was released by Augsburg at the end of last season now that Karius will be out until October at the earliest.
