Liverpool to refund season ticket holders as they count financial cost of pandemic

Liverpool are set to lose over €14 million in gate receipts as they outlined that season ticket holders will receive refunds for the remaining Premier League games at Anfield.

The club will contact season ticket holders and members over the next 14 days to compensate them for the matches against Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, Burnley and Chelsea that will be played behind closed doors if the Premier League season is completed.

Liverpool hold a 25-point lead at the top of the Premier League and are two wins away from a first title in 30 years.

Season ticket holders will receive refunds on a pro-rata basis for all remaining games, while members who have purchased tickets on a match by match basis will get a refund for any of the matches they have purchased tickets for.

A general view of gates at Anfield, Liverpool as The Premier League has been suspended until April 4, the Football Association has announced.

Hospitality season ticket holders are to also receive pro-rata refunds, while all other fans that purchased tickets for individual games will be entitled to a full refund.

Refunds are also available for supporters that purchased tickets for the away fixture at Everton.

Last season, Liverpool's gate receipts came to almost €100 million.

Premier League clubs will decide this week if they are going to fully activate 'Project Restart', which would allow the season to be completed this summer.

Whether Liverpool will play all of their home matches at Anfield has yet to be guaranteed, but the League are believed to be eager to ensure there is a trophy presentation if and when they clinch the title.
