WATCH: Divock Origi scores magical goal for Liverpool against Preston

Liverpool beat Preston in the last 16 of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night. Neco Williams won Man of the Match but it was Divock Origi who captured everyone's imagination.

For someone who plays so rarely, Divock Origi has a tendency to score some spectacular goals.

He scored the second after Takumi Minamino broke the deadlock. The game finished 2-0. Liverpool dominated possession throughout despite resting their stars. Neco Williams won man of the match for contributing to both goals, whereas Irish goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher missed out through injury.

Adrian started in Kelleher's place and while he had to make some saves, Liverpool fans were thankful for his limited involvement.

Joe Gomez and Joel Matip gave Liverpool a strong foundation to control the game. Gomez is reportedly unhappy with his playing time but he got 90 minutes under his belt in this game. Divock Origi has been in a similar position over recent years. He will be forever etched in Liverpool's history thanks to that goal against Barcelona, but he barely plays.

When he does play, he scores. Liverpool hope that he will be able to carry some of the workload for Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane when they depart for the African Cup of Nations.

Origi and Minamino could both become regular starters in the Premier League. Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota will remain and there are other options, but Jota has picked up injuries at different times and Firmino was already hurt once this season. If either miss time while Salah and Mane are away, this strike partnership could suddenly become important.
