It's been a chastening season for Liverpool as the highs of a title tilt last season was replaced by failure to qualify for the Champions League in this campaign.
That's despite experiencing a rise from 20th to 14th in Sporting Intelligence's rankings of the highest payers in world sport (in all sports, one must add).
Paris Saint-Germain top the list, replacing Manchester City who held that position last year and who have dropped to third, sandwiching Real Madrid.
Liverpool are fifth among the Premier League teams that make it on the list alongside NBA, Major League Baseball and NFL sides, with annual average pay of £3.5M (€4.9M) - which breaks down to an average weekly wage of about €93,000 for the top 20 players at the Anfield club.
