Leicester City lose out on seven-figure sum over jersey shortage for new fans

Leicester City's Premier League title charge was unexpected by almost everyone.

One group that certainly were not expecting the title run were the club's merchandising staff. On Tuesday morning, the only kit you could by on Leicester's website was for infants. All adult and children's stock has been sold out for months.

According to Bloomberg, the oversight has cost the club at least €1.3million in jersey sales. The kit has become a hot commodity across the world, as Leicester continue their improbable march to Premier League glory.

Jersey orders are made a year in advance and Leicester's 14th-place finish last season meant the club ordered their kits accordingly, according to Kitbag's Andy Anson. "They would have bought a number equating to them coming near the bottom again. Nobody could have expected this."

Thailand has become a country where Leicester's jersey sales have sky-rocketed with the help of the club's Thai owners. Jerseys have sold out in Bangkok's International Airport, as the club's sponsor King Power run the airport's Duty Free section.

A new kit will be released in the coming months for next season. Leicester and kit manufacturers Puma will be sure that a shortage of jerseys wont be an issue next season, whether they are Premier League champions or not.
