WATCH: Leeds seal title with wonder goal, criticised for open-top bus

Leeds United finally got hold of the Championship trophy that they have been craving, since their Premier League relegation in 2004 - and held an open-top bus parade.

The Whites completed an incredible domestic season under Marcelo Bielsa, with a 4-0 win over Charlton Athletic. Charlton were relegated as a result.

One of the names that United will be looking to tie down for at least another year, is loanee centre-back Ben White, borrowed from Brighton.

He scored an absolute wonder goal last night:

Leeds' Managing Director, Angus Kinnear, thanked chairman Andrea Radrizzani for their promotion back to the Premier League, in the programme notes.

"There are many people to thank for the mirabilia of Marcelo’s revolution. Firstly, Andrea [Radrizzani] whose vision, commitment, and unerring belief have been at the heart of our success," said Kinnear.

"He has always corrected anybody who said, “if we get promoted” and reminded them that it is “when”. His determination, optimism, and graft have guided the club on a daily basis and delivered his five-year objective in just three years.

|He is a rare owner seeing himself as a custodian of the club and, while promotion will be highlighted as his main achievement, the leaps we have simultaneously made in the community, commercially and with the stadium, training ground and Academy will also be core to his legacy."

Leeds' open-top bus criticism

Having urged fans to stay at home for their celebrations, Leeds were criticised for hosting an open-top bus display near Elland Road after their win.

The club released a statement defending the club's stance:

"Following consultation with the Safety Advisory Group and council, Leeds United arranged for a bus to be parked outside the East Stand reception as a contingency to assist dispersal should a crowd congregate at Elland Road, despite a month-long campaign from the club and supporter groups to encourage supporters to stay at home.

"The safety group believed that a brief appearance from the players with the Championship trophy would help to signal an end to proceedings, encouraging fans to head home safely.

"In challenging circumstances, fan safety has always been our priority."
