Lampard relieved as Chelsea return to winning ways in Premier League

Frank Lampard and his Chelsea side got their first Premier League in almost four weeks with a 1-0 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday evening.

Mason Mount found the back of the net for the Pensioners in the 78th minute.

The hosts were down to 10 men for the second half after Antonee Robinson was shown a straight red card just before the break for a dangerous tackle on César Azpilicueta.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Lampard was not only happy with the win but also with how his side played.

"It feels good, it's not easy, we've been out of league form recently - you have to break it, you have to break the duck of some points that we've lost.

"You come to Fulham who are in good form, [they] made it very difficult and probably could have beaten Liverpool and Tottenham recently.

"I felt we started the game really well, we controlled a lot of the ball - against 10 men it's not easy, it feels easy, it should be easy but it's not easy and we kept going and we got what we deserved tonight."

The sending off was the defining moment of the game with Fulham having to really sit back and defend for the second half.

Lampard felt this made the win even more impressive.

"It [a sending off] bring about a pressure to move the ball and hit the sides pf the pitch, open them up, and make them run and you've got to create chances, you've got to get crosses in the box, and we were doing that.

"Because of our form in the last few games, that's a little harder, maybe confidence is not quite there so if you're looking for that pass with 10 behind the ball it's not easy but we found it so I'm really pleased."

Lampard highlighted the depth of his squad as being important but had particular praise for goalscorer Mount.

"Mason I thought was outstanding, he deserves the accolades for how he played. I had a feeling we would get the goal. It was constant; the pressure.

"It was just about staying patient, staying quick with the passing and I think they did.

"Callum [Hudson-Odi] could have started today, it's not an easy selection for me. He added, Tammy [Abraham] added, Temo [Werner] added when he came on, I'm disappointed he didn't get his goal.

"Mason was in a slightly deeper role, but can still arrive in the box, he needs to score more goals, Mason, but he knows that.

"He's quality, he's brilliant, his attitude is brilliant so he deserves it."

The result means Chelsea go seventh in the table and although he agreed it was significant, Lampard says they must use it as a starting point to push on from.

"It's [signifigant] only if we back it up. It feels good tonight. We went on a really good unbeaten run, we got ourselves two points off the top but then took a bit of a hit for a period of time.

"We can't think now that everything is solved, it's not solved, because we want more.

"I keep saying that we're in a bit of a transition - we know there are new players, we're still trying to find solutions in the way we're playing but we need to get points because it's Chelsea so it's a good start tonight and we go again on Tuesday."
