Frank Lampard has admitted to being a big fan of Paris Saint Germain striker Edinson Cavani who has told the French champions that he wants to leave.
Chelsea are in the market for a striker with French World Cup winner Olivier Giroud being primed for a move away from Stamford Bridge in this month's transfer window.
The Chelsea boss spoke highly of Cavani when asked about him today.
"He's a great player," said Lampard. "I played against him and I always loved his mentality and his attitude and obviously his goal-scoring record speaks for itself.
"I'm not absolutely aware of what the situation is so we'll see."
The Uruguay international turns 33 next month and is also on the radar of La Liga club Atletico Madrid this month.
Lampard has cultivated quite a young squad since taking the reins with Chelsea but admits that a player with experience, such as Cavani, could be a big help to younger players in the dressing room.
"Yeah, he's an experienced player but so are many other players out there," said Lampard. "I think we are young as a squad and we know about the transitions.
"The idea of bringing in experience is something I’m certainly not absolutely looking away from. Because sometimes the young players need a little bit of help, and if that’s the case then that may help us."
Meanwhile, there have been reports in England that Giroud is being targetted by both Aston Villa and Serie A club Inter Milan.
Lampard is happy to let the former Arsenal striker leave but only if the deal is right.
"With Ollie there's not much more to say than I've kept saying," added Lampard. "We know there's been discussions and the idea that he may move on but it needs to be right for everyone. At this point it isn't yet."
