Kylian Mbappe's supreme talent wouldn't fit in at Liverpool | OTB AM

Amid reports that Liverpool's retain an interest in Paris St Germain's Kylian Mbappe, Off the Ball's Phil Egan believes the Premier League leaders are better off staying away from the World Cup winner.

Despite the 21-year-old's high profile, Mbappe, who joined PSG from Monaco in a deal worth well in excess of €100 million, would not suit Liverpool's system or style under Jurgen Klopp, according to Phil.

Speaking on Friday's edition of 'Deal or No Deal' on OTB AM, he explained the rationale for staying clear of this generational talent.

"As good as Kylian Mbappe is," he reasoned, "we saw that little clip of him there during the week.

"PSG are 6-1 up and the ball comes into him, could score a routine goal but decides, you know what, we're 6-1 up, taking the piss here, I'm going to try a rabona lob.

"Which, by the way, nearly came off but you can see the utter disdain on one of the opposition player's faces when he just looks at him."

Exciting though the attempt was, for Phil, it captured an aspect of Mbappe's game that would not suit Liverpool.

"If he was to sign for Liverpool," he hypothesised, "fans seeing Mbappe holding the Liverpool jersey would consider it a real statement.

"But Liverpool's success under Klopp is built on hard work and yes, there are players there who have nice wage packets, but they've earned those [playing for Liverpool.]

"You throw Kylian Mbappe in with a huge wage packet and players will be thinking, 'this guy doesn't work as hard as us.'

"This phrase we hear, 'This means more'. Other clubs laugh at it but one thing about Liverpool is that if they are beaten, it'll not be from a lack of effort.

"I think back to Mbappe in that second-leg against Manchester United in the Champions League. You could see what was happening, and that was one of the worst games I've ever seen him play.

"I thought he was really poor when you were looking for him to step up. I don't think [a move to Liverpool] is going to happen."
