WATCH: Koeman delivers update on Seamus Coleman injury as Ireland qualifier approaches

Seamus Coleman remains a serious doubt for Ireland's opening World Cup qualifier against Serbia.

Everton manager Ronald Koeman has confirmed that the full-back is facing at least another two weeks out of action with an ankle injury which kept him out of their Premier League opener against Tottenham last weekend.

"Seamus isn't ready. He'll be out for another two weeks at least," he said.

Martin O'Neill's side are due to travel to Belgrade for their opening qualifier on September 5th, meaning that Coleman remains unlikely to play.

With Ireland winger Aiden McGeady expected to leave Goodison Park before the end of the transfer window

"Of course we make a fast decision about [Oumar] Niasse, make that fast decision about McGeady and maybe two or three more, [so it] will be very difficult for them to be part of the team because we have a big squad," he said, while seemingly confirming that James McCarthy remains part of his plans.
