Kevin Kilbane believes Manchester United played into Southampton's hands by aiming long balls towards Marouane Fellaini during their 1-0 defeat.
Joining Off The Ball's Dave McIntyre and our co-commentator Steven Reid after the match, the former Ireland international highlighted where United went wrong against a resolute Saints side who had the combative pair of Victor Wanyama and Morgan Schneiderlin sitting in midifield.
"They bring Fellaini on for the last 20 minutes and go direct. It plays into Southampton's hands. They've got two players capable of playing knock-down football, United can't play knock-down football so overall you've got to give full credit to Southampton," said Kilbane.
"It's route one and they're not capable of playing route one. Steven and I would have both played in sides where you know how to play knock-down football and try and ring the ball and try and get knock-downs. United weren't even organised playing like that."
Reid felt Southampton were "full value for their win" and analysed how their full-backs and defensive midfielders showed "superb" discipline.
The ex-Ireland midfielder thinks it could be a "bit of a wake up call" for the Man United.
