Shane Duffy had a night to forget when he scored two own goals and received a red card while playing for Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday night.
In truth, all defenders will have at least one night like that when everything goes wrong.
But Duffy is already an Ireland international with Euro 2016 experience under his belt after an injury-interrupted early part to his career.
And if the 24-year-old's former Everton manager David Moyes is correct, Duffy's development potential is vast.
"Defenders are going to have these moments. Look at the best defenders in the Premier League," ex-Everton and Ireland stalwart Kevin Kilbane said on Off The Ball before sharing Moyes' words at a time when Duffy was just hitting his '20s.
"Something David Moyes said to me. Moyes said to me when [Duffy] was breaking through at Everton: 'He might not be quite there yet but I see him as a player when he gets to 29-30, he will be a top centre-half. But it might just take him a few years. He understands the game brilliantly.'"
