Kenny Cunningham believes a deep run in the Europa League or even winning it would have huge consequences for Jurgen Klopp.
The Liverpool manager watched his side get the better of Manchester United in tonight's last-16 first leg at Anfield to give themselves a strong chance of advancing to the next round.
"I think from Klopp himself in terms of bringing the players with him and buying into what he's asking of them, performances and results have been a little bit haphazard. Some outstanding performances but there have been some dips as well," Kenny told Off The Ball after the final whistle.
"I wouldn't say people have been questioning the manager, but I think as a player, you always wonder that slight doubt if this fella is the real deal and take us where we want to go and that's competing at the top end of the Premier League, Champions League and winning trophies.
"Now he's taken them to a Capital One Cup final, albeit they lost to Manchester City, but certainly if they're to go deep into this competition and certainly to a Europa League final, then I think that belief and confidence would soar through the team and the manager would have that belief and respect from the players that he knows what he's doing. So I think it's significant how Liverpool do in this competition. I think it is important for Klopp going forward."
