Kenny Cunningham on how Bayern can "take a leaf out of Atletico's book" in the second leg

Kenny Cunningham believes Bayern Munich should "take a leaf out of Atletico Madrid's book" in their Champions League semi-final second leg.

Atletico beat Bayern 1-0 at home tonight to take an advantage into the second leg at Munich's Allianz Arena.

Ex-Ireland defender Kenny thinks Atletico are now slight favourites to progress to the final but believes a more direct approach could help Bayern and that their last-16 victory over Juventus could be an "education" on how break down a resolute defence.

"Atletico, when you look at them play, want you to have the ball, want you to have two, three, four passes because they back themselves every time. They get amongst you, make tackles, make interceptions, physically impose themselves and bully you, particularly that central midfield area," said Kenny.

"I think sometimes you've got to almost take them out of play. You've got to go from back to front early, play behind them, directly into Lewandowski. He can play with his back to goal and if you saw the Vidal chance late on, that's all it was. Smashing the ball back to front, Lewandowski won the flick on and picking up the second ball. I think Bayern can take a leaf out of Atletico's book and go a little bit more direct in the second leg."
