Have Chelsea lost the battle-hardened qualities of old?

Former Ireland defender Kenny Cunningham feels the current Chelsea side have lost the defensive resilience of old.

Kenny joined us on the show as PSG beat the Blues 2-1 at Stamford Bridge to complete a 4-2 aggregate win to go through to the Champions League quarter-finals.

"Every time they did drop into their shape, I was never convinced, even with the second goal from a defensive point of view was far too easy," Kenny told Off The Ball after the final whistle.

"Fabregas allows Di Maria to walk in behind him and Azpilicueta switches off, just caught ball-watching and Di Maria gets played in behind. Just from a defensive point of view, I felt PSG didn't have to work too hard to get in those dangerous areas whereas before [Chelsea] were very resilient and battle-hardened and defensively solid. You just had to work hard to get any type of space, five or ten yards around the Chelsea box to get your head up and play a pass. They just wouldn't allow you to do that."

Kenny felt the "best team went through" and was far more impressed with PSG than he had been after their 2-1 first leg win.

"That was a more impressive performance without a doubt. They moved the ball quicker through the central area of the pitch," he said, adding praise for Angel Di Maria.
