Manchester City offered Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci

Leonardo Bonucci may be on his way to the Premier League this summer after Manchester City were offered a deal to take the the Italian defender to the Etihand Stadium.

The Manchester Evening News report that new City boss Pep Guardiola had submitted a bid for the centre-back believed to be in the region of £38m, but this has been denied by sources close to the club.

According to the report, City were approached by a third party offering the player's services but Juventus have put a price tag of £50m on the 29-year-old which could prove prohibitive.

Wantaway Everton defender John Stones also looks to be a viable option for Guardiola and despite facing a similar fee to prise him away from the Merseyside club, he appears to be a long-term investment who could play at the heart of the City defence in the coming years.

Stone has already informed Everton of his intention of moving away from the club this summer and faces a similar drawn out transfer saga to last year when then-Premier League champions Chelsea were in the hunt for his signature.

Manchester City have been forced to prepare for life without Vincent Kompany who has suffered repeat injuries and missed large parts of last season. The Manchester City captain played no part in Belgium's underwhelming European Championships campaign in June.
