Jurgen Klopp: "In a specific way, we don't fight enough"

Jurgen Klopp was in foul form following his side's 1-1 draw with Newcastle United at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

Having watched Liverpool lead for much of the match, a late, late goal from on-loan Joe Willock gave Steve Bruce's side a welcome point.

As he spoke to BT Sport post-match, the German admitted that he is not sure where his team is going wrong.

"We kept them alive," he remarked of how Liverpool's inability to finish the game off had provided Newcastle with a route back into the game, "and in the end they deserved their goal.

"Why this happened, I don't know."

Despite controlling much of the possession throughout, Klopp considered why his team were not capable of finishing the game off.

"In a specific way, we don't fight enough," he explained. "When we make a mistake we fight and try to win the ball back.

"[But] we had 70% of the ball today and we should have had 80%... So, we created a lot of chances and didn't score with them. We have to create more and take them.

Suggesting that his team's performance dipped when they failed to convert any of the chances that followed Mohamed Salah's wonderful opener, he also spoke on Liverpool's Champions League hopes.

"If you deserve it, you deserve it," he said of qualification, "and I didn't see today that we deserved today to play Champions League next year.

"There are another five games and we will see what we can do... We learn, or we don't play Champions League. That's it."

Pre-match, Jurgen Klopp came in for criticism following his comments on the reaction to the Super League fall out this week.

"Huge admirer of Klopp but he's spectacularly tone deaf here," tweeted the former England international Gary Lineker about the Liverpool manger's comments.

"Without the fans of our beautiful game it would be much uglier today."
