Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has dipped into his own finances to donate money to Nigeria's Olympic team.
The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner donated $30,000 (€27,000) to help a team that is low on funds.
AfricanFootball.com were told about the donation by one of the players, who confirmed the size of donation.
“Mikel has donated $30,000 to the team. You know we have not received money since we left Nigeria," he is reported as saying.
According to the website, the team's coach Samson Siasia has not been paid for almost six months.
Mikel is one of two over-23 players in a squad that is grouped with Sweden, Japan and Colombia in Group B.
Nigeria previously won the Olympics Men's football tournament in 1996.
