John Giles has picked his all-time Everton XI on Thursday's Off The Ball, as he picked from a packed shortlist of Toffees' stars.

Giles was singing the Blues' praises, so, without further ado:

Neville Southall

Everton legend Big Nev makes it into Giles' lineup.

"He was a top-class goalkeeper and right up there with Pat Jennings.

"He was a top boy, and there were a lot of great goalkeepers at that time!"

Brian Labone

Only booked twice in his career, Labone starts - he missed out on the World Cup because he was getting married.

"I think he knew that he wouldn't get in the team between Jack Charlton and Bobby Moore!

"But he was a great lad, very comfortable on the ball and would have been a great player today."

Kevin Ratcliffe

From the successful Everton side of the 1980s, Ratcliffe is in.

"He was quick, he was good. As captain, he was a good all-round player.

"They broke the Liverpool stronghold for a time."

Derek Mountfield

Radcliffe's all-time XI partner is his actual central-defensive partner.

Howard Kendall

Howard Kendall, Everton

Kendall would go on to be an accomplished Everton manager, the late Kendall was one of the best midfielders that the club have had.

"He was a very, very good player but he never got an England cap - he was certainly good enough to be capped.

"He was part of that famous trio at Everton at that particular time.

"There was a story that when he played at Preston, when Liverpool were after him, and he had to call Shankly and say he was signing with Everton.

"Shankly said: 'I didn't want you anyway!"

Alan Ball

Everton captain Alan Ball is followed out of the tunnel by goalkeeper Gordon West.

World Cup-winner Ball makes it in.

"I played with him for a while in Philadelphia, he was a bubbly personality! There was talk that he might have gone to Leeds.

"He would cover every blade of grass. A very quick-witted player, at close quarters his control was very good."

Colin Harvey

The last of the 'holy trinity' of Harvey, Kendall and Ball makes it in.

"He was a very, very good player. Technically good, good control and passing of the ball."

Trevor Steven

Everton's Trevor Steven gets away from Liverpool's Jan Molby, watched by referee Alan Robinson.

Steven makes it in by dint of his versatility, ahead of Kevin Sheedy and Kevin Kilbane.

"Trevor Steven could play on the right, the left or the centre. He was a very, very good player."

Andy Gray

Keysey's mate makes it in.

"Andy wasn't there for a long time, but he was hugely influential in the time they were there.

"He made them from a good team to a winning team. He was absolutely brilliant. I think he lived it up a bit!

"When he played at Everton, he played like he had when he first came to England."

Alex Young

Alex Young, Everton.

An Everton legend that prompted one fan to say 'if I found Alex Young in bed with my partner, I'd tuck him in.'

"He was idolised at Everton. A lovely player, scored more than his fair share.

"If you were running a poll for the best player, it would be Alex Young."

Bob Latchford

Bob Latchford, Everton

Latchford makes it in ahead of Gary Lineker.

"Lineker was only there for a year, so couldn't be considered an Everton legend.

"Latchford was very good, he did what was needed and was top goalscorer for six years without having the top team around him."
