Joey Barton hit with three week-ban after training ground bust up

Joey Barton has been handed a three-week ban by his club, Rangers, in the wake of a training ground bust up with his team-mates.

The former Manchester City and Marseille player was told to stay away from the club's training ground until Monday as a result of the fight, which took place after Rangers slumped to a 5-1 defeat in the Old Firm derby.

Barton took to Twitter to apologise for any of his comments which may have crossed the line, but also spoke to Jim White on Talksport in an unsanctioned interview, stating that: "Obviously sometimes the way I communicate can be a bit blunt, a bit direct, and it ruffles people’s feathers, which I know I have to work at, but I don’t apologise for trying to win."

On Monday, after a meeting with the club, Barton was handed a three-week ban.

In a statement on their website, Rangers said that he had "been suspended by the club and will not return to Ibrox or Auchenhowie for a period of three weeks.

"The manager, Mark Warburton, and club believe that time and space is required for both the club and the player to assess all that has happened. Neither party will make any further statement or comment on this issue."

Barton was keeping quiet on the matter when he was approached by reporters on the way out of the ground, stating that he couldn't comment on it. However, when asked if he was still a player with the club, he simply said "I think so."
