Jamie Carragher swiftly deletes tweet mocking Gary Neville further

Jamie Carragher swiftly deleted a tweet on Tuesday that appeared to mock Gary Neville further over Salford City's sacking of Richie Wellens.

Earlier this week Neville and the club he possesses an ownership stake in were criticised in some quarters for parting company with manager Richie Wellens.

A matter of days after Wellens had guided the team to EFL Trophy success, their first trophy win as a team in the football league, it was nevertheless decided that he was leaving.

Quickly replaced by Gary Bowyer in a deal that only runs until the season's end, it was argued in some quarters that Salford's ruthless approach contradicted an approach Neville has championed in the past.

After Nicky Butt, a co-owner of Salford City alongside Neville, departed his role at Manchester United on Tuesday, Jamie Carragher appeared to suggest that another change of manager may be forthcoming.

"Hours or days before @GNev2 sacks Gary Bowyer," he asked on Twitter, before deleting the tweet shortly thereafter.

In the direct aftermath of Wellens' departure earlier this week, it had been Carragher who lead the criticism of Neville and Salford City.

A former player who had come through the same Manchester United academy as most of Salford's owners, Wellens had briefly played for the club shortly after Neville & co. took over in 2014.

Appointed manager in November 2020, it remains unclear who will replace Bowyer as boss if the English manager does not stay beyond season's end.

Elsewhere, time is all that Roy Keane would need to be a success at Celtic, according to former Sunderland and Ipswich Town winger Carlos Edwards.

With rumours swirling around the former Celtic midfielder potentially taking charge of the club, Edwards, a former player of Keane's on the two occasions he has been a manager, has been publicly backing the Cork native's credentials for a head-to-head battle with Steven Gerrard's Rangers.
