James Wilson signs for Aberdeen

Aberdeen have signed striker James Wilson on a two-year deal after the 23-year-old was released by Manchester United when his contract expired.

Wilson spent last season on-loan at Pittodrie, scoring four times in 24 Scottish Premiership games.

The England under-21 international scored twice on his debut for United against Hull in 2014 but was on loan at Brighton, Derby County and Sheffield United in recent seasons.

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes is happy to see Wilson sign a contract with the Dons, who claim he's moved to Pittodrie despite "substantial interest" from English clubs.

“I’m delighted to have James back. He is a young player who has had to deal with a lot in a short space of time, but he’s got his whole career ahead of him.

“We feel that he showed glimpses towards the end of last season how effective a player he can be and what a positive impact he can have on the team. We want to try and build on that now that he is an Aberdeen player and not a Manchester United player.”

Wilson is Aberdeen's seventh signing of the summer and they're expected to recruit further this week ahead of the Europa League qualifiers.
