Jack Wilshere returns to action in hope of securing Euro 2016 spot

Jack Wilshere made headlines last week for all the wrong reasons but returned to action last night with Arsenal's U-21's as they defeated Newcastle 3-1.

The Arsenal and England midfielder missed almost nine months of action due to a broken fibula sustained in training in August and had this to say about his return to action, "I have said before I want to go to the Euros and I know that I have to get back into the Arsenal team. I have to persuade the England manager and Arsene Wenger that I should play. I felt good.

"It is nice to be back and play my first game. I know that I’m not there yet, not quite ready to play in the first team but it is another step closer to my fitness."

Arsenal's chances of winning the Premier League are dependent on whether Leicester or Spurs slip up with seven games left to play but Wilshere will be keen to convince Roy Hodgson to include him in his England squad as they jet off for France during the summer.

Johnny Giles almost choked on his toast when he heard that Wilshere was being considered by Hodgson and based on some twitter reactions, Wilshere was less than stellar on his return.

News of Jordan Henderson's injury opens up a position in England's midfield and a place in the squad, and while not being a direct replacement for Henderson, Wilshere does offer energy and an ability to run from deep along with experience that Hodgson might covet as England aim to make a push for a major title for the first time since 1966.
