Diego Maradona is in the running to become FIFA President, according to Uruguayan journalist Victor Hugo Morales.
Morales made the claim on his twitter account stating; "I called Diego Maradona to see how was their dad. He told me that he would be a candidate for President of FIFA and I authorized to communicate it. 'I am a candidate' were the two words that Diego Maradona replied when I consulted him for the nomination for the Presidency of FIFA"
The Argentine legend would require the backing of five FIFA associations to get his name on the ballot paper to succeed Sepp Blatter. The 1986 World Cup winner has been scathing in his views of the current FIFA regime recently, calling Sepp Blatter a "dicatator" in a column he wrote for the Daily Telegraph.
The news comes 29 years to the day, after Maradona was scored one of the greatest goals in World Cup history. The "Goal of the Century" came in a World Cup quarter final against England in Mexico City.
