Player ratings - Ireland 1-1 Switzerland

A late equaliser from David McGoldrick had the Aviva Stadium rocking as Ireland scraped a 1-1 draw with Switzerland to stay top of Group D.

That's not to say it was a good Irish performance though. It was backs to the wall at times and until the final ten minutes, Ireland offered little going forward.

Here are our ratings of the Irish players' performances:

Darren Randolph: 5

Hadn't much to do throughout the game. Stayed calm when a few of the passes back to him fell short and he was put under pressure by the attacker. Could do little about the goal.

Seamus Coleman: 4

Didn't push forward as much as he usually does. Looked a little more laboured than normal. Came into the game more when Alan Judge was pushed out onto the right.

Shane Duffy: 5

Defensively solid for most of the game. Had plenty of crosses and long balls to deal with and did so with relative ease throughout. Not much he could have done for the Swiss goal.

Richard Keogh: 4

Took him a while to get settled into the game and struggled to cope with the physicality of Embolo. Once he settled, he read the game well and did well when the Swiss broke at pace. Got caught out a couple of times in the second half when the Swiss pushed forward.

Enda Stevens: 3

A little sloppy on the ball early on. Lost possession of the ball 10 times in the first half alone. Took too much time on the ball which almost led to two goal-scoring opportunities. A night to forget.

Glenn Whelan: 4

A couple of misplaced passes early on put Ireland under needless pressure. Out of position for the Swiss goal. Rattled the crossbar with a shot from outside the box as Ireland pushed for an equaliser. Pushed forward as Ireland piled the pressure on and switched the play well.

Conor Hourihane: 4

Played in a more defensive role than we've been used to which was a bit of a waste. A forgettable performance.

Jeff Hendrick: 5

Hendrick made reference to the criticism of his Irish performances since Euro 2016 in the press conference during the week and to be fair to him, we have seen some sparks of that player in recent games. He was more willing to get forward again this evening and played James McClean through on goal after some nice footwork. Failed to track Schar on two occasions for the Swiss goal.

James McClean: 5

A typical James McClean performance. Worked his socks off, frustrating at times, often out of position. However, his tenacity and cross led to Ireland's goal.

Callum Robinson: 4

Missing at times in the first half. Good when he was involved in the play but didn't see enough of the Sheffield United man tonight. Replaced early in the second half by Alan Judge.

David McGoldrick: 7

A thankless job. Did well when he got onto the ball, should have had a goal but opted to attempt a pass across the goal instead of shooting. Popped up when Ireland needed him with a good headed goal.

Alan Judge (Sub 58') - 5

A good substitution from Mick McCarthy. Made two last-ditch headers at the back post. Always an option going forward
