A goal in the first minute of added time by Jonas gave Benfica the upper-hand in their Last-16 Champions League first leg against Zenit St. Petersburg.
The Russian champions were one of the most impressive teams in the group stages of the tournament winning all five of their opening group game to comfortably reach the knockout stages. Benfica qualified for the knockout stages with a game to spare as the finished second in Group C.
The Portuguese side dominated the game and Domenico Criscito's sending off in the final minutes proved crucial. The Zenit defender was sent off in the 90th minute for a second yellow card and from the resulting free kick, Benfica scored the decisive goal.
A trip to Russia awaits the Portuguese champions in three weeks time, as Zenit will look to overturn the one-goal deficit and reach the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time in their history.
