This Friday, Liverpool legend Ian Rush will be part of the Irish Autism Action event at Mullingar Golf Course which will be raising money for a great cause.
Tonight, the former striker joined us on the line to look ahead to the dawn of a new Premier League and given his Liverpool connections, the 52-year-old had plenty to say about his former club's chances.
"We all know Luis Suarez is a great player and people move on. But one thing's for certain: there's no one bigger than the club. But the most interesting part for me is that [the owners] have given the manager Brendan Rodgers money to spend and I think that's an absolutely fantastic thing," said Rush, who feels that the Reds now have a stronger squad than the one they started the summer with.
Rush also gave his take on Rodgers' recent comparison of young star Raheem Sterling with a certain Lionel Messi.
He believes Sterling has learned from a positive World Cup and is described the 19-year-old attacking midfielder's pre-season form as "phenomenal".
"He seems to be on a high. His adrenaline is flowing and even when you speak to him, he's hyper. He wants it even more and that's what Brendan is trying to say," said Rush.
Sterling's versatility was particularly eye-catching last season, but that is also going to apply to the entire Liverpool style this season, with no set way of playing and Rush is impressed by how Rodgers looks at the opposition's way of playing and thinks he has learned from the defeat to Chelsea last season.
"I think there's Plan A, B and C now," he explained, adding that the Champions League will bring valuable experience to the younger players in the squad.
Rush also defined what success will look like for Liverpool at the end of the upcoming season and also gave his take on captain Steven Gerrard's future, stating that he is glad that he has retired from England duty.
