John Giles believes Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas has "lost his nerve" after La Roja's humiliating exit from the 2014 World Cup.
John joined us on the line to cast his eye over the group stages so far and started off by discussing the former World Champions.
He believes Spain are "over the hill", although he admitted that he had tipped them before the tournament began.
"I couldn't see it coming. I thought they would do okay. But they got badly beaten," said John, who felt that Vicente Del Bosque should have made changes to the team sooner.
"I think if Ferguson had been manager of the Spanish team, you wouldn't have seen many of the older players playing in this World Cup. I think Iker Casillas has lost his nerve. He's certainly been a great goalkeeper but he's not a great goalkeeper anymore."
John would have had Cesc Fabregas in his team but believes the new Chelsea midfielder lost out due to his lack of defined position at Barcelona, and believes "nothing would have helped" Diego Costa due to his lack of fitness.
John believes Raheem Sterling's recent performances have been "exaggerated", although he thinks he is very promising and added that Wayne Rooney is best in a central role for England.
