To the surprise of some, Luis Suarez' punishment for biting Giorgio Chiellini will also be applied to his club career with Liverpool.
To discuss the repercussions for Liverpool and the impact on the relationship between clubs and countries, we were joined by The Times' Tony Barrett.
"It means they are in a very difficult position," said Barrett, who believes it lowers any fee in the event that a move to Spain becomes inevitable.
But it also opens a can of worms when it comes to the complicated club v country relationships.
"It highlights the tensions that exist in that relationship between clubs and FIFA and the national teams. If you're Liverpool, you'll be thinking 'why would we allow our player to be used by FIFA? You've got to look at this as a commercial operation and the World Cup is a massive money spinning event for FIFA," said Barrett, who believes that Suarez' notoriety makes it hard to build a club v country revolution around him.
