Maguire understood to be heading home after Greek court appearance

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire pleaded not guilty to charges in court in Greece today, following his arrest in Mykonos this week.

The 27-year-old defender was arrested after an alleged fight on Thursday night along with two other British men, aged 28 and 29.

Maguire appeared in the Greek court today where he testified for approximately an hour.

Three charges are being considered - aggravated assault, verbal assault and the attempted bribery of an official.

It's not known which of these charges specifically relate to Maguire but a sentence of as much as three years in prison could be handed down for the attempted bribery.

He denied all charges made against him and a further hearing will take place on Tuesday.

The three defendants do not have to attend the hearing though and it's believed they are returning to the United Kingdom.

Maguire refused to make any comment outside the court today when approached by media.

According to Sky Sports News Maguire's lawyer said he "Right now, yes" when asked if the England international was a free man.

Maguire's club, Manchester United issued the following brief statement on today's proceedings,

"Following the appearance in court today we note the adjournment of the case to allow the legal team to consider the case file.

"Harry has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

It would be inappropriate for the player or club to comment further while the legal process takes its course."
