Tonight’s Off the Ball saw the discussion surrounding the spectacle of Sunday’s FAI Ford Cup Final continue, with St. Pat’s captain Ger O’Brien live on the line to reflect on the “pure relief” of ending the club’s 53 year wait for Cup glory.
Roddy Collins was also on the programme, a day after saying that he was “a little bit embarrassed” by the display of both teams in the Aviva on Sunday afternoon.
Collins attended the match with John Still of League Two side Luton Town who, according to Collins, claimed that no player on the pitch would make it into his squad.
The former Derry City boss defended his comments this evening, expressing that he felt Sunday’s match was not typical of the standard of Irish club football.
“If I thought it was typical of the league would I bring a chief executive?” he said.
“I felt the players were short changed with the promotion of the game.”
O’Brien, however, was audibly opposed to Collins’ comments.
“I thought the word ‘embarrassing’ was bang out of order” he argued.
